Carmel has a rich and longstanding history.  The chuch was founded by Reverend Elijah A. Buttram in 1893 as a Methodist church.  Reverend Buttram donated the land and timber for the first church, and with the help of his sons, cut the timber at their sawmill.  That first little wooden church building was simple, but it was the foundation for what God was beginning to do at Carmel.  At the turn of the twentieth century, God was pouring out His Holy Spirit in a marvelous way.  This Pentecostal experience also came to the Buttram family.  Not long after Reverend Buttram received the baptism in the Holy Spirit, Carmel joined the newly founded General Council of the Assemblies of God.  And so it has remained ever since.  Carmel continues to be a Pentecostal church, not only in name, but in experience.  We are so grateful for the Holy Spirit's presence.  Well over a century has passed since Carmel was founded, but God is still using this church for His glory.  The buildings have changed, but our mission of serving God and promoting Christ to this world have remained the same.
